The Atonement of Jesus Christ means a lot of different things to a lot of people. This page (and those linked to it) is what it means to me. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – I am only a member. I don’t speak for or on behalf of the Church. If you want to know what they have to say about the Atonement, you can find it here.
I originally started this page as a simple Word document. I’d received a blessing that told me to study the Atonement, and President Nelson’s voice was still ringing in my ears from General Conference:

It was time for me to start learning. And when I start learning, I start taking notes. I write things down and ponder them. I figured I’d might as well share them here. Then my kids will always have something to show them that their mom loves and believes in her Savior.
I started by writing down what I already knew about the Atonement, and then just started reading things and plugging them in. The bullet points I’ve listed below were things I already knew. If you choose to click on them, some of the pages will correct what I thought I knew, and others will just have the information I’ve found to back up what I had.
- It’s real
- It was an act of love
- It overcomes two “types” of death
- It happened so that Jesus Christ could experience our pains in order to help us overcome them
- It happened so that we could return to live with our Heavenly Parents again someday, if we choose to (this one goes with overcoming death, so quotes I find to support this will be on that page)
- It had to be Jesus because He was the Only Begotten of the Father. That provided Him with the power to stop it from happening at any time – it truly had to be His choice.
Those bullet points were all I knew when I started this journey. But I keep learning and as I do, I add more to the list:
- How to know the Atonement is working for me
While this page is more for me than it is for you, I hope you find something helpful. I hope your journey to find Jesus leads you to the peace and comfort this world cannot provide. I hope you come to know Him and accept His sacrifice in your life.
