Overcoming Obstacles

After I wrote down that the Atonement overcomes two “types” of death, I read a talk by Tad R. Callister titled, “The Atonement of Jesus Christ.” In that talk, I learned that the Atonement actually overcomes four obstacles (those two types of death being two of them). They’re separated below.

Physical Death

Simply stated, physical death is when our spirit is separated from our body. If you want to dig in a little more, here’s a good place to go.

Spiritual Death

Our spiritual death is our inability to be in the presence of God. Here’s more info.

Our Afflictions & Infirmities

Our Weaknesses & Imperfections

He, by choice, accepted the penalty for all mankind for the sum total of all wickedness and depravity; for brutality, immorality, perversion, and corruption; for addiction; for the killings and torture and terror—for all of it that ever had been or all that ever would be enacted upon this earth.

Through saving ordinances:

It gives us an opportunity to repent.

But, Paul says, ‘The sting of death is sin,’ meaning that if men die in their sins, they will suffer the prescribed penalty and gain a lesser glory in the realms ahead (1 Cor. 15:56).

It teaches us how to forgive.
